ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the methods for creating weldments from defined paths using the three-dimentional (3D) Sketch tool and creating weldments from part design. These are two approaches. The first approach is considered the choice for modeling trusses. The second approach is the choice when students are modeling solid parts and intend welding some of the parts together. Weldments play a significant role in joining structural members and hence are of vital importance in the civil engineering discipline. Also, weldments constitute one of the several aspects of manufacturing process that requires specific attention. Since the paths of weldments are mainly in 3D, a good grasp of the 3D Sketch tool is a prerequisite for creating weldments. From the main menu, select the 3D Sketch tool by clicking on the Sketch tab of the Command Manager. Select the Line Tool. The Weldments toolbar provides tools for creating weldment parts.
