ABSTRACT

Clusters of new and/or neglected skills are required to live and practice narratively in current health care environments. A new narrative competence in conjunction with scientific competence is required for an effective and fulfilling practice of health care. Each of six narrative skills is examined in Chapter 6, and the application of these skills to clinical encounters is highlighted. Readers have the opportunity to practice some of these skills through a set of narrative stretching exercises. Chapter 7 discusses the evidence for narrative success and risks of non-narrative practice.166
