ABSTRACT

We conclude the book with a set of conversations carried out with eight health care clinicians who purposively honor the stories of their patients and profession. Four conversations are with physicians: Valerie Gilchrist (family physician); Rita Charon (general internist and literary scholar); Jack Coulehan (family physician and poet); and Thomas Boniface (orthopedic surgeon). Three conversations are with nurses: Courtney Davis (nurse practitioner and poet); Earl McFarland (cardiology nurse practitioner); and Judy Schaefer (nurse and poet). Several of these clinicians (Charon, Coulehan, Davis, and Schaefer) have contributed significant scholarly work to the field of narrative health care.
