ABSTRACT

Mindfulness can be thought of as a moment-to-moment, non- judgmental awareness, cultivated by paying attention in a specific way, that is, in the present moment, and as non-reactively, as non-judgmentally, and as open-heartedly as possible. Mindfulness is none other than the capacity we all already have to know what is happening as is it is happening. Mindfulness can best be nurtured through the regular practice of meditation. Basic meditation has two complementary dimensions: mindfulness and awareness. In our everyday lives, our minds are restless, always jumping from one thing to another. It is difficult to pay attention under these circumstances. So we need to quiet the mind – be mindful – so that we can experience and practice relaxed awareness.
