ABSTRACT

It is easy to get lulled into a false sense of security, especially if the ‘taking action’ stage has gone without any hitches. Complacency can creep in and occasionally an overconfi dence that borders on arrogance can surface. It’s as if we forget all the effort it has taken to get this far. This is a dangerous time and it is all too easy for a minor lapse to begin the slide down the slippery slope to relapse. Unfortunately, in any single behavioural change attempt, the odds are stacked far more in favour of relapse.
