ABSTRACT

The aim of this section is to consider the clinical features and management of the common cardiac conditions encountered in hospitals by the general physician, including the management of pericarditis, tamponade, endocarditis, the acute coronary syndromes, cardiac failure, atrial fibrillation, and pacemakers. Questions in the exam may also tackle the common invasive and non-invasive investigations, and the clinical relevance of their results. Note that, whereas you may be required to make difficult diagnoses from simple investigations (e.g. ECGs), you may also be required to make simple diagnoses from difficult investigations (e.g. transthoracic echocardiograms).
