ABSTRACT

The more old-fashioned multiple-choice questions have been gradually phased out in recent years. Although they test factual information, they do not give an indication of the candidate’s ability to perform higher-order skills such as data interpretation and problem solving. The current mode of questioning, namely ‘ex-tended matching questions’, tests material that is relevant to practice and avoids the esoteric (and sometimes interesting) topics that are not essential. The idea is to assess the candidate’s information base as well as their ability to utilise that information.
