ABSTRACT

There are many areas in practice work which can lead to conflict. This chapter highlights a few of the issues that might cause problems. Clinical governance will become a major area of management responsibility. The clinical governance lead will need to try to create a culture of development and continual learning in the practice, as well as honest appraisal and feedback. The larger the practice area the lower the turnover rate, but home visiting may become a problem. One can keep visit rates down by ringing patients before each visit, but different doctors may have different views on visiting patients at home which might be a source of conflict. Some partners may wish to hang on to long-term patients who move away. Another key area of clinical policy is how to deal with the emergency that arises during surgery hours.
