ABSTRACT

How to use this book This book is a manual of experiential learning in relation to communication and consul tation skills for health professionals. Most of the chapters begin with an outline of the topic and some background material. We give examples of how to run a session. There are a series of scenarios with information for facilitators, participants and the simulated patient (SP). The scenarios may be adapted depending on the group participants, stage of expertise and availability of SPs. Each topic and scenario has learning objectives or learn ing outcomes and points for facilitators. Suggestions are given for group discussion and debriefing. We refer to theoretical principles where appropriate.
