ABSTRACT
Hanging Committee is the name of a BMJ committee that used to be the final judge of whether submissions were accepted. If a journal has already published the results of one pivotal trial, it is unlikely to accept another. Since such trials often take place in different locations, a better strategy is to consider the journal's geographic reach and readership, for example submitting a North American study to a US journal, and a European one to a European journal. Virtually all journals will impose their own (so-called 'house') style on professional writer's article before publication. House style includes spelling options, conventions on abbreviations and typographic style for headings. Hybrid journals are journals that allow authors to make individual articles free to writers, if they pay an article processing charge, but which charge writers a subscription to read articles by authors who have not paid for the Open Access option.
