ABSTRACT

Health care professionals have decided that an electronic patient record (EPR) is for them and have gone through a full review process before deciding on the system the general practitioner have agreed to buy. The Provincial Medical Association, with Dr Jones, negotiated with the vendor and agreed a plan of implementation. Time spent on planning the implementation of his/her new system is time well spent as the more the general practitioner think about and consider before professionals go ahead, the less problems they will have when actual implementation starts. It is very important that the professionals think about how the computer affects their relationship with the patient during a consultation. It has been suggested that it works best if the EPR system physically forms a triangle with the patient and the healthcare practitioner so that both the patient and the healthcare practitioner can see the screen.
