ABSTRACT

This patient with pre-eclampsia appears to have been overloaded with fluid, resulting in pulmonary oedema. The diagnosis can be made on clinical grounds, but should be confirmed by a chest X-ray. Remember that the leading causes of death among pre-eclamptic women in the UK are intracranial haemorrhage (poor control of blood pressure) and pulmonary complications, where inadequate fluid management is often a contributory factor.
