Work with your finance department or manager to agree the per­ centage that the organisation will charge for overheads (maybe less if you are pump-priming or working off-site), the desired percent­ age profit, office expenses and necessary expenses such as for trav­ el, library costs, printing and postage. Include funding for staff development. Allow for additional activities if things go wrong, e.g. staff sickness absence, or if any project activity is postponed or fails. Treat each individual bid separately when calculating or agreeing the budgets.
