ABSTRACT

Introduction Most of this book addresses ethical issues in professional practice, but two chapters specifically address ethics in occupational health management, namely this chapter and Chapter 23. Occupational health managers have direct responsibility for running an occupational health service and are often also professional practitioners for some time during their working week. The message of this chapter is that occupational health managers have an ethical duty to promote research-informed practice and quality improvement. This will enable them to respond to growing and conflicting demands (on them and their service). It explains why occupational health research and improving quality help to create a more ethical service and also provides ideas that will help in the work involved.
