ABSTRACT

Background Workplace health surveillance is based on the existence of known workrelated hazards that might give rise to deterioration in heath among employees. Its central role is the primary prevention of occupational and work-related diseases and injuries.12 Health surveillance serves also as a method to gain information on the safety of working methods, the correct use of protective devices and the working climate. If any flaws are noticed, additional information and counselling will be offered. If an employee has already developed a suspected work-related disease, further examinations and medical care must be embarked upon and any limitations concerning continuation of the exposure have to be dealt with.
