ABSTRACT

In essence, this book is based on descriptions of practical cases occurring in occupational health services practice. The cases presented represent model situations that constantly recur, in various contexts and forms, in occupa tional healthcare. They confront occupational health professionals with the challenges of making choices and acting in accordance with their funda mental professional values. The cases selected for this book do not, for obvious reasons, represent the full range of situations or difficulties that present themselves to occupational health services or the occupational health professionals in such services. The field of occupational health practice is broad in scope, and there are innumerable variants on complex tasks to perform and issues to resolve. Further, it should be remembered that the multidisciplinary activities of occupational health services involve health professionals of differing educational backgrounds (vocational or academic) and with varying professional experiences in the field.
