ABSTRACT

Everyone working in primary care over the last few years has found their work changing. GPs often find this particularly hard to cope with since they usually see themselves as the keystone of the system, and in addition have had to cope with many entirely new roles such as fundholder, manager and PCG board member. This chapter is written entirely from a GP perspective and examines this sense o f ‘role drift’. It first appeared in the British Journal o f General Practice, June 2000.
