ABSTRACT

A variety of job options are available to GP registrars on comple tion of their training. Starting as a GP locum is probably one of the most popular choices straight after the registrar year, as it allows new GPs to be flexible and provides the opportunity to work in many different practices before settling into a more permanent position - if they wish to do so. There are many other exciting areas in which you can work as a GP if you do not want to become a principal in general practice straight away. This chapter looks briefly at locum work and becoming a principal, and ends with a short summary of other options.
