ABSTRACT

Many people are frightened of giving a presentation or speaking in public. Every health professional or manager has to speak to groups of other people at some time, whether this is during a ward round, at a multidisciplinary case review or when presenting an interesting case at a postgraduate centre. Someone should aim to start by capturing the interest of the audience, and then to maintain their attention and to finish with a memorable ending. Feedback is given on each presentation to the whole workshop. Depending on the level of experience of the participants, individuals could be allocated a role on a slip of paper and they could practise in pairs for 5 or 10 minutes and give each other feedback in an informal and friendly way before presenting to the larger group.
