ABSTRACT

Most studies about the helical planetary gear are two-dimensional with the effects of gyroscopic motion ignored. In this paper, we attempt to establish a three-dimensional dynamic model of a helical planetary gear set with the consideration of the gyroscopic motion. The free vibration characteristics of the helical planetary gear set are discussed. The influence of meshing stiffness on vibration modes is further investigated. Hence, the study may be useful as a tool to restrain resonances.
