ABSTRACT
For vector field problems, this chapter focuses on problems of solid mechanics. It develops partial differential equations of equilibrium for solid mechanical structures and the corresponding finite element method formulations in three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) spaces. The chapter discusses the 2D and 3D solid mechanics problems under the plane stress situation and the plane strain situation.
