ABSTRACT

The local fire services department could be invited to visit the premises and be requested to issue a report stating that all its requirements have been met with regard to fire prevention procedures, equipment, and escape routes. The company appointed Fire Coordinator should ensure that the correct types of fire equipment have been provided for each identified risk area. All fire equipment should be strategically located in relation to the fire risk, for example, at the exit to an office or room, not inside the room. The coordinator should maintain a layout plan of the premises on which all fire equipment and critical valves are indicated. The emergency plans will be reviewed by the Fire Coordinator to ensure that the necessary fire prevention and protection measures are in place. The monthly inspection checklist completed by Safety Representatives could include checking that fire equipment is available and is in a good state of repair.
