ABSTRACT

Editors bear the full responsibility to ensure that journal content is ethical, accurate and relevant to the readership. They work closely with referees within the peer review framework to achieve this. A comprehensive description of peer review and manuscript management in scientific journals, including its golden rules, can be found in the work by Hames. The overall vision of a learned society publisher at its core is to provide that research community with a place to publish their work free of commercial imperatives and possible interference. The role of editor-in-chief, and indeed all the existing coeditors, included attracting good scientists to the scientific editorial team, but with appointments finally made by the IUCr executive committee, an elected body of the IUCr general assembly. The authors of course want prompt editorial handling if possible but do understand constructive suggestions.
