ABSTRACT

The vast scope of luminance values that the human eye may experience in the real world678 (as illustrated in Table 19.2) is then said to have a high dynamic range (HDR). In contrast,689 actual devices for the acquisition, storage and display of luminance values typically span about two (e.g., high-quality paper print) to three (e.g., typical photographic films, CCD sensors or LCD displays) or even four (e.g., high-end CMOS sensors) orders of magnitude, and are consequently said to have a low dynamic range (LDR).
