ABSTRACT

This chapter explains some of the many challenges an organization will face in controlling the use of social media and how to train employees on appropriate social media use. It examines issues with employees using social media for nonwork activities that may impact an organization's reputation or its security. The chapter also examines the importance of protecting an organization's social media image and the importance of controlling and monitoring the social media tools an organization has selected for use. It discusses the importance of monitoring negative social media posts about an organization or social media posts that result in an unauthorized discloser of proprietary information by Internet users. The chapter reviews the legal issues in creating and enforcing corporate policies and procedures for the use of social media on behalf of an organization and the nonwork use of social media by employees.
