In Chapter 8 you saw how new, bigger groups could be built up from smaller groups by using the Cartesian product. The multiplication sign × was used to denote the Cartesian product.
You probably have wondered whether there is any process which corresponds in some way to division. The answer is yes-under some circumstances. The purpose of this chapter is to investigate those circumstances.
