ABSTRACT

The term 'e-procurement' refers to the use of electronic means for procurement of goods or services. With the advent and proliferation of the internet, most electronic procurement activities are now carried through the internet. The electronic processes of construction procurement originated with the use of disks, then contractor’s designs and subsequently memory devices to send electronic documents. The construction industry is reaping the benefits of the fusion of technologies; the integration of Building information modelling (BIM) with virtual reality and 3D printing, and components supplied using drones, are becoming a reality. BIM covers a complete range of professional services, such as building geometry, spatial relationships, light analysis, geographical information, quantities and the properties of building components, such as manufacturers' details and data sheets. Increasingly, building products are tagged with radio-frequency identification chips or other wireless communication methods, making components or equipment installed traceable and/or controllable.
