ABSTRACT

The UK is fortunate to have the benefit of a wide variety of published institutional standard forms of contract available for use in the building and civil engineering industries. The Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) has existed since 1931 and has produced forms of contract, guidance notes and other standard documentation for use in the construction industry. The agreement can be used where the main contract is Standard Building Contract, Design and Build Contract, Major Project Construction Contract or Intermediate Building Contract. The employer will provide the drawings and specification, and a management contractor will administer the conditions. The contractor is not only required to carry out and to complete the works, but also to complete the design. Many of the current forms of contract include wide representation from different organisations, sectors and interests in the construction industry. The forms were developed through collaboration with UK Constructing Excellence to procure a range of construction services that uses partnering approaches.
