ABSTRACT

The chapter begins with design requirements for an incident reporting system underpinned by systems thinking. It describes the design requirements identified for understanding and preventing led outdoor accidents data system (UPLOADS), and how they were embedded into the design of the prototype incident reporting system. Design requirements are the goals that must be met for a product to be successful. These requirements should inform the design of a prototype data collection protocol, learning from incidents process, software tool, and training materials. The prototype components developed for UPLOADS are presented as examples of the outputs from the design process. The chapter shows the design requirements that were developed for UPLOADS based on the systems thinking principles. The design requirements then informed the design of the prototype components for UPLOADS. Each design requirement was clearly reflected in specific aspects of the components.
