ABSTRACT

Mission failure is often thought to be the result of poor mission planning, which places considerable demands on the planners and the planning process. This observation is further confounded by the two general principles of warfare. Mission planning is an essential and integral part of battle management. Although there are some differences within and between the armed services in the way they go about mission planning, there are also some generally accepted aspects that all plans need to assess. The fire control measures were developed by the Battle Group Commander, to ensure that the indirect fire ordinance would not be placed on the advancing force elements. Five fire control lines were drawn on to an overlay on the paper map and numbered one to five. The optimal choice of type and mode of communication is likely to be heavily dependent on the activity conducted.
