ABSTRACT

The effectiveness of a tool is dependent upon its appropriate use. The extent to which the tool will be utilised appropriately is dependent upon how easy and intuitive the tool is to use. When the tool in question is computer software, the mechanics of the tool are hidden from the user and the means of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is provided in the form of an 'interface'. The effectiveness of a tool is dependent upon its appropriate use. The extent to which the tool will be utilised appropriately is dependent upon how easy and intuitive the tool is to use. To determine the usability of HCIs, a simple and powerful method of assessment is a subjective user-focused 'usability checklist'. Radar plots were used to succinctly represent the impact of each section. Each axis illustrates how the participants rated each question: positive responses are represented at the perimeter, negative responses at the centre.
