ABSTRACT

When engaging in accredited learning, incidental experimentation through individual observation of practice does not just occur personally for the trainee. It occurs also for controllers and instructors watching others. As discussed in Chapter 5, the publicly available nature of the work enables controllers to notice how someone else has solved a particular problem and this in turn expands the range of alternatives available to the controller concerned (see, e.g. the section in Chapter 6 on peripheral reflection).
