ABSTRACT

Wind actions are commonly expressed as products of time invariant and time variant components. The time invariant components are considered here by the product C = c p c g c r of the pressure factor c p, gust factor c g and roughness c r. The time variant component represents the basic wind pressure given as q = v 2 ρ /2, where v denotes wind speed and ρ the volume density of air. The wind pressure w can be then written as w = C v 2 ρ /2.

Considering the available data, it is shown that both the annual wind speed v 1 and wind pressure w can be well described by three parameter Weibul or lognormal distribution. Correct type of distribution is important for the specification of extreme values and full probabilistic analysis of structural reliability. Further research should be focused on random properties of the time invariant component C, and its elementary factors c p, c g and c r.
