ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the techniques of generating slow and fast pulse using micro-ring resonator (MRR). MRR systems made of different materials. Micro-ring device can be constructed with radius in the size of a micron. The chapter utilises the input power below and above threshold value to investigate the behavior of light pulse in term of linearity and nonlinearity. To generate slow light, series of ring resonators is used. In this method, the nonlinear effect of waveguide is neglected because of threshold power of nonlinear effect. Bright soliton and Gaussian beam can be used for three waveguide as input pulses. In this method chaotic signal can be canceled by neglecting nonlinear effects. All optical waveguide materials to generate slow and fast light should be dispersive. This means that the refractive index varies with wavelength. There are several ways to measure dispersion in materials.
