ABSTRACT

Usability testing is one of the most important steps in evaluating user-centered interaction for digital design. The goal is to identify any usability problems, collect qualitative and quantitative data, and determine the user's satisfaction with the experience. This chapter provides an overview of the content and methods for usability testing. It describes the need for usability testing and determines which metrics is used to evaluate. Testing early and often is the most important aspect of usability testing during designers' digital design cycle. Testing early and throughout the process will assist in identifying any user issues early on. Traditionally, usability testing was reserved for the very end of the production cycle. Another model, referred to as Lean UX, focuses on the actual experience being designed. There are many other usability testing tools that are a fraction of the cost of traditional testing tools and can give results that are close to traditional usability testing facility results.
