ABSTRACT
Digital Publishing is not a new concept. However, there has been a radical shift in the publishing industry to take advantage of the digital capabilities available to consumers. EPUB, or electronic publication, has been widely adopted by mobile readers using Kindles, Nooks, and iPads. This chapter explores how to publish content to digital devices, specifically the iPad. It describes digital publishing and the difference between an eBook and an EPUB. The chapter also describes the difference between a fluid and a fixed layout. It discusses how to design for touch devices. Fixed layouts work best for designers. Reflowable EPUBs put the user in control of the content to provide them with an optimal reading experience for text-based documents. The reflowable format is the most common and widely distributed layout for eBooks. The downside is that this format does not preserve the integrity of the layout and design.
