Understanding Visual Storytelling book
A good story needs a compelling plot that involves appealing characters living in a believable world. Understanding story and its structure is important, but you are working in a visual medium. This chapter describes the components that make up a good story. It aims to build a composition that keeps the audience visually interested in a story. The chapter discusses how lines, shapes, colors, and values are used together to form a composition. It helps the designers to create unique and compelling characters for animation and to use different camera shots to "show" the story. Without any emotional involvement, a story is reduced to a series of events. The dramatic structure consists of a beginning, middle, and an end. The important compositional element is positioned at the intersection of two lines. Actually any one of the four points of intersection highlighted is a strong place for a point of interest.
