ABSTRACT
This chapter provides some useful techniques designed to make it easier for students to make a start. Some people advise their students to "write for themselves", at least in their first draft. As the person who carried out most of the work students intend to write about, students are far too familiar with the purpose of students' study, the importance of students' results, and all the steps students have taken to get from the original idea to the actual realisation of students' project. Students' examiners are likely to be experts in students chosen discipline, but may not necessarily have a deep knowledge or understanding of the specific subject of students' project. A much better strategy, at least until students become a more skilled academic writer, consists in 'dumping' students' thoughts on paper without worrying about structure, grammar, punctuation, logical sequence.
