ABSTRACT

The distortion incurred by a panel along a shipyard panel line has complex cause and effect relationships with the manufacturing processes of that line. Bayesian networks are an effective tool for modeling such complex relationships and, when applied to the manufacturing processes of a shipyard, can predict distortion and its effect on downstream processes. Such a network could be used to identify the most impactful design parameters and process operations to mitigate distortion and reduce costly corrective work later in production.
