ABSTRACT

Trauma anaesthesiologists are an essential part of the trauma team working in close collaboration with the surgeon. Trauma anaesthesia is involved in the entire chain of trauma care; from pre-hospital, to emergency room, often multiple operating room episodes, intensive care, and pain management. Strategies that work in elective cases may not be appropriate for trauma patients. The trauma anaesthesiologist participates in and contributes to the decision-making process during the initial resuscitation, and provides resuscitation and anaesthesia in the perioperative setting.
