ABSTRACT
Delayed diagnosis and treatment of abdominal injuries are common causes of preventable death from blunt or penetrating trauma. Approximately 20% of abdominal injuries will require surgery. In the UK, Europe, and Australia, abdominal trauma is predominantly blunt in origin, while in the military context, as well as civilian trauma in South Africa, South America, and the larger US cities, it is predominantly penetrating.
