ABSTRACT
This chapter is a question and answer style article that contains past FRCA paper examples related to neurosurgery, neuroradiology and neurocritical care. It also guides trainees on the most effective manner in which to approach these questions. The discussion covers the following: the characteristic neurological changes that occur immediately and in the first three months following transection of the spinal cord at the fourth thoracic vertebra; other clinical problems that may develop following this type of injury; the advantages of a regional anaesthetic technique for a cystoscopy in this patient; and why and when may suxamethonium be contraindicated in a patient with spinal injury.
