ABSTRACT

This chapter is a question and answer style article that contains past FRCA paper examples related to neurosurgery, neuroradiology and neurocritical care. It also guides trainees on the most effective manner in which to approach these questions. The chapter discusses a case study of 80-year-old patient who is to undergo second stage revision of a total hip arthroplasty for treated deep joint infection. The discussion covers the following: specific preoperative considerations which are relevant to this patient; the important features of the intraoperative anaesthetic management of this case; and the patient risk factors for bone cement implantation syndrome and the steps that can be taken to prevent or minimise its effect.
