ABSTRACT

Reservoirs are built with a great deal of planning and engineering expertise and require huge investments. It is, therefore, vital that they serve their intended purposes for the duration of their design life. Unfortunately, a huge threat to the effective operation of reservoirs is caused by the drastic reduction of their life span due to the rising rate of sedimentation caused by large changes in their watersheds. This chapter discusses reservoir sedimentation characteristics, sedimentation hot spots, and relationship between catchment area of reservoir with average annual rate of sedimentation in the reservoir.
