ABSTRACT

The advance of information and communication technologies (ICTs) implementation in finding solutions to our socio-economic and environmental issues is playing an important role in achieving sustainable development goals. The adoption of ICTs is still a challenge, particularly in developing countries with billions of unconnected individuals. The potential of ICTs as an enabler for socio-economic prosperity is greater than ever and the latest available data from the World Bank show income inequality to be on the decline. The use of ICTs in developing countries have been explored as the impacts of climate variability and change are more pronounced and the poorest countries lack adequate infrastructure, health-care systems, and telecommunication networks, which makes them more vulnerable and requires urgent action toward sustainable solutions. ICTs have proven useful in tailoring responses to situations arising out of the climate-water nexus.
