ABSTRACT

Vibration and dynamics are fundamental subjects in engineering. Vibration can cause malfunction or break down of machines that exhibit unbalance or misalignment. This chapter reviews the basic equations and their solutions for structural vibration and dynamic analysis. It discusses the finite element analysis (FEA) formulations for solving vibration and dynamic responses. The chapter reviews the equations of motion for both single Degree of Freedom (DOF) and multiple DOF systems and discusses how to compute the mass and damping matrices in the Equilibrium (FE) formulations. It discusses the methods for solving normal modes, harmonic responses, and transient responses for structural vibration and dynamic problems. The chapter reviews the basic equations and their solutions for structural vibration and dynamic analysis. It discusses the FEA formulations for solving vibration and dynamic responses. The chapter reviews basic equations for a multi-DOF system, such as the discrete system resulting from the finite element discretization.
