ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces maintenance as a strategic tool for asset management (AM). It presents different needs to make AM decisions including condition data, failure statistics, reliability modeling techniques, reliability and maintenance tools, and systematic techniques for maintenance planning. It presents basic concepts and terminologies used for maintenance planning including the preventive maintenance method of condition monitoring, which could be used to identify potential failures. Moreover, it introduces the standard ISO 55000 which is the first international standard on AM.
