Acquisition of Big Health Data book
This chapter focuses on acquisition of Big Health Data. Acquisition methodology and method thereof will be different for different types of healthcare application. Crowdsourced health-research studies are a pointer towards participatory health, where people use health social networks, crowdsourcing applications, smartphone health applications, and personal health records. Crowdsourcing in health is generally reflected in researcher-organised and patient-organised crowdsource studies. The health industry has found a new friend in social networks. It is using the sites to support, promote, and increase the spread of information and data, ranging from clinical healthcare to public health campaigns. The health research literature has focused on social network sites either as tools to deliver health care, or to analyse Web health content. The prototype system provides patients, public health officials, and healthcare specialists with a unified view of health-related information. It provides the capability of exploring the data along multiple dimensions, such as time and geographical location.
