ABSTRACT

When we need to design large, complex products taking significant number of person years, we cannot handle it in a haphazard manner. We need to treat it as a project. A project is a one-time venture. It has a definite beginning and a definite ending. The requirements for people will not be uniform all through the execution of the project. A project has to be planned, executed, controlled, and finally closed, adhering to a well-defined process. We have to plan for project management, quality management, productivity management, morale management, configuration management, and integrating the deliverable. During the initial planning of the project, we bring organizational experience and knowledge to bear on the project. During the closure of the project, we cull the lessons learned during the execution of the project and dovetail them back into the organizational knowledge repository. All these aspects are discussed in this chapter.
