ABSTRACT

X-ray lasers would study the innermost secrets of all matter and would even furnish three-dimensional X-ray pictures of the structure of matter. The laser has an important use in the laboratory division of the law and order program for microanalyses. Laser holography also shows stress patterns of projectiles and metal weakness. The laser is important in security systems, as indicated for the military. New developments have been made in the field of communications. Fingerprint identifications with computer storage and retrieval with more rapid readouts by lasers have been done. Lasers have been also proposed for three-dimensional imagery to develop a classification system of fingerprinting. As reported for the military, various types of laser guns have been proposed by the military for personnel and for area offensive weaponry. The laser has a great future in the so-called law and order program not only to help man and the law forces but also as a potential source of danger to man.
